* Angelica Carpenter's The Secret Gardens of Frances Hodgson Burnett - A stunningly beautiful picture book that describes the fascinating life of the author who wrote classics such as The Secret Garden, Little Lord Fauntleroy, and A Little Princess.
* Kelly Holllman's This Opening Sky - A heartwarming novel in free verse that takes place after the Civil War and tells a tale of hope told in alternating voices of two young girls, one a freed slave and the other the daughter of a plantation owner.
